What is Star Touring & Riding?
Conceived in 1995 and founded in 1996, STAR Touring and Riding Association is an international family riding organization. As the, "Official STAR Organization of Yamaha Motor Corp.," STAR is a non-political, non-confrontational association. Its main focus is on family, fun, camaraderie and RIDING. All brands of motorcycles are welcome. Comprising over 20,000 families and over 150 chapters, STAR recognizes safety as a first priority. The STAR community is a mix of riders with varied riding experiences. Chapter rides follow the highway laws and limits, to keep everyone as safe as possible. This allows everyone to enjoy the ride and not have new riders feel overly stressed. STAR chapter rides do not include "tavern runs", and consumption of alcoholic beverages on chapter rides is prohibited. We want to see you back safely for the next ride. If you are looking for a family motorcycle association, with a lot of pride, spirit and camaraderie without the "attitude" you have found the right organization. Come ride with us and feel the spirit!!!!!
I have heard about STAR Touring and Riding Association but I don't own a Yamaha. Can I join?
Answer: Yes you can! STAR Touring and Riding is a family organization and our family and friends don't always own the same brand of bike. Although our main focus is the Yamaha Star Line of motorcycles, we welcome all motorcyclists. When you join the STAR organization you're going to make a lot of friends, some that will last a lifetime. Your membership is a full membership. Come join our family and have some fun!
I was on the Internet and was told that STAR doesn't allow V-Stars in the organization. Is that true?
Answer: That is totally false and so is the story that goes along with it. STAR Touring has thousands of V-Star owners in this organization; some of our chapter presidents ride V-Stars. Think about it, what would STAR Touring have to gain by doing that? When it comes to the Internet, we believe 10% of what we read and discount the other 90%. The best thing to do when you want to know something about any organization or company is to pick up the phone and ask them directly. You may find out that 90% of the time, what you have heard has been changed from the facts or never really existed at all. When you want to know something about STAR Touring, call us. STAR has a very friendly office staff and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. All contact information is listed on the "Contact Star" menu at the top of the page.
After joining STAR how long does it take to get my membership packet?
Answer: It takes between 30-45 days to process the application. (It may take a little longer during our annual STAR Days event because our staff is quite busy.) If you need to access the website just CALL membership services (520-572-8367) a few days after applying online. You will then be given your permanent password while you're waiting for your packet. For security reasons, we will not give out your password via e-mail.
My significant other wants to join STAR. Can they join under my membership? Is there an additional fee?
Answer: They can join under your membership (if you live in the same residence) and there is no additional fee. Your membership also includes up to four children living at home.
Do I have to join a Chapter to ride with them?
Answer: After signing the ride waiver and completing three chapter rides you must join STAR to continue to ride with the group. The third ride needs to be completed five months after your first ride. This is a requirement of STAR Touring and the Charter License. You are then eligible to be voted into the chapter at that time.
If I belong to one Chapter can I ride with other Chapters?
Answer: Yes, as long as you have signed a ride wavier with each Chapter and have a current STAR Touring membership.
Our Chapter wants to hold a Star-B-Q can we?
Answer: STAR-B-Que's are regional events covering more than one state. The chapters in the area form a committee to work out the details and STAR International is also involved with support and guidance. To start the process, contact your Regional Director or the International office.
Where can I buy a lower rocker for my chapter/area?
Answer: Rockers are not purchased. You must become a member of a Chapter then pay a license fee to the Chapter to wear their lower rocker. You have to get the rocker from the Chapter President. The lower rocker is the property of the Chapter and must be surrendered back to the Chapter if you quit or don't maintain your membership with STAR Touring and Riding Association.
